How it Began

Stark started back in 2011, when Adri and I would take long-walks by the canal, which became the catalyst to commit to my lifelong “top-secret-ambition” of designing a plant-based skincare line.

During these walks, we observed how the  native plants and animals thrived in the city despite the “un-natural” environment and sometimes extremely harsh weather.

The resiliency was the muse to create a skincare line that specifically helps support skin to adapt to the environment.
To become more resilient.

(And a one point, our bedroom view was this thing, the Big O, which we called the Mothership.)

How it's Made

Stark is both simple and sophisticated by combining old-world plant wisdom with modern cosmetic science. 

Every product is created by hand in small batches in a meticulously kept tiny lab, or by Jess herself. 

Stark uses resilient plants such as adaptogens, antioxidants-rich oils and carefully selected ingredients to help skin function it’s best. Fortifying against external aggressors such as airborne VOCs, smoke, and pollution is kinda our thing.

On the road to true

Since our products focus so much on the environment, we’re concerned about our own impact has a business.

We modify our ingredients every few years to reflect the pressures the beauty industry imposes on the environment... making increasingly sustainable choices, instead of following trends.

About Our Prices.

The truth nobody wants to tell you is that skincare has a massive markup.

There's no good reason for *most* luxury skincare to be priced the way it is (nothing is worth $400/jar, no matter how incredible the ingredients are).

But if a company can get away with 20x markup, chances are they will.

We don't do that.

Our markup ranges from 2-4x cost, sometimes more or less depending on fluctuating COGs and complexity of creating a product (skincare is an art and a science and creating in micro-batches drives costs up, but it's worth it).

We raised our prices for the first time, after several years of lowering them, in 2022 due to drastic increase in costs.
